Fig Tree News TeamThe Pineapple Festival will be held in Gregory Town, starting Wed. June 1st and end Sunday, June 5th.

Co-Chairpersons, Frances Thompson (242-335-5053) of Gregory Town and Jackie Gibson (242-332-2148), Ministry of Tourism, are working feverishly to complete the line-up of all events and entertainment for the festival.

Due to Hurricane Frances, the waterside dock, site of the festival was damaged badly. Members of the community, at their own expense, not the government, just completed the repair of the dock. The cabana in front of school was torn down and the committee hopes to replace it with a tent.

Here is a tentative list of some of the activities:
Pineapple Eating contest (each day), Final event - to be announced.
Hula hoop & tug of war contests;
Beer drinking contest;
Water sports & crazy sports;
50-yard dash with Pineapple on head;
BIKE RACE - details to be announced

There will NOT BE A Triathalon this year.

Limited funds are provided by the Ministry of Tourism. Funds from each festival are put back in the fund for the next years festival. Stalls are erected & thatched & lighted then torn down after each festival.

Each Friday night, in Gregory Town, at Pineapple Park, they have fund raiser DINNERS @ $8.00 to help defray the expenses.

Stop by Gregory Town for your dinner each Friday night to help support the Festival Committee. More details to follow later in month.
