Don | A major event in the life of Harbor Island occurred last Friday night, November 15th.. The Kiwanis Club of Harbour Island held its Installation Banquet in the garden of Government House. This was actually a "Reinstallation", since the Kiwanis Club had been a very positive force on Harbour Island in the 70's and 80's. Now, a new generation of community leaders has stepped forward to start writing another chapter of service, supported by several members from the original club.
The "sponsoring clubs" were the Over the Hill Kiwanis Club from Nassau and the Kiwanis Club of Georgetown Exuma. As an example of the types of programs supported by the Kiwanis, the Over the Hill Club presented a diabetes testing facility to the new club for the Briland clinic, similar to many they have donated to clinics in Nassau. The motto for the club is "Let Us Build....Together". The first project undertaken by the club is focused on Harbour Island beautification. Other programs aimed at improving life on Harbour Island are in the planning stages. The officers for the club are: - Richard Johnson, President - Caleb Major, President Elect - Nora Albury, Vice President - Rionette Roberts, Secretary - Pascale Saunders, Treasurer All Kiwanis International members visiting Harbour Island are urged to attend their meetings, which will be held every Friday night at Baretta's Restaurant. |
