KimberlyOtis Johnson, Mr. Berlin's grandson, sends the following note:

Berlin Cleare was an elder statesman of the Briland community as a devoted Roman Catholic and senior in the Lodge.

Mr. Cleare was the longtime owner of Casablanca Bar and Cafe on Pitt Street, owned and managed several farms on Eleuthera (and one on Briland) along with a number of local fishing boats. Mr. Cleare was also the longtime property manager for the Newman family of Dilly House on Colebrooke Street.

Mr. Cleare was married to Bertha Cleare (now deceased) and then Ms. Penny Johnson, and will be greatly missed by eight sons and daughters Dudley, Nola, Kim, Loretta, Pauline, Donna, Elenore and Rocky ... and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
