BIFF UPDATES: News on the upcoming Bahamas International Film Festival
Bahamas International Film Festival 2004

The 1st annual Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) takes place in Nassau from 9-12 December 2004, entertaining Bahamians and visitors with a diverse presentation of international films, cultural experiences and fantastic social events. Over four days, BIFF will play host to industry professionals, filmmakers, celebrity guests, visitors and the local Bahamian community. The Festival will present more than 60 films from over 25 countries in a wide range of genres. Importantly, Bahamians will be able to learn from the experts at educational panels covering Acting, Directing, Screenwriting, Film Financing and Production.

Films from around the world will be shown in several categories including documentaries, short films, animation, family films, "world cinema", Regional cinema and more. Awards will be presented in the "Spirit of Freedom" International Competition and New Visions categories by a panel of prestigious international jurors.

A FILM SCHEDULE will be available online, printed in The Tribune on December 2nd and 9th, distributed as in insert in The Tribune, listed in the December issue of Tourist News and at the festival in the Official Festival Programme.

This dramatic comedy by Danish filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen premieres in Nassau on Friday, 9:00PM a the Atlantis Theatre, and lead actor Mads Mikkelsen will be in Nassau for the screening. Green Butchers has received rave reviews at numerous film festivals including Sydney Film Festival, Toronto FIlm Festival, HBO Comedy Festival and the Bermuda Film Festival.
SYNOPSIS: Fed up with working for the local butcher, Svend and Bjarne decide to start their own butcher shop. After dismal beginnings, an unfortunate accident happens which coincides with a large order of meat. One hasty decision leads to another and soon the business thrives.

The BIFF Education Series at Ardastra Gardens
The Bahamas International Film Festival presents a series of panels at the Ardastra Gardens over the weekend of 9-12 December, 2004. The education of the general public, festival attendees and Bahamian students is a central component of the Bahamas International Film Festival and will be centred upon at these education sessions. The focus of the panels will be a series of illuminating discussions concerning the art and the craft of cinema.
