|Fig Tree News Team||If you have something to ship out (from the USA to The Bahamas) having a value of > USD 2500 (e.g., a plasma TV screen), currently you can submit a Shipper's Export Declaration on yellow paper. You can expect a mandatory change from paper to electronics within the next 12 months.
I am doing this "electronic" SED for one company in Opalocka already, and it works.
This change has the following effect:
- US Customs personnel does not have to do the data entry and checking anymore
- the SED filer (shipping company or person) will get an instant notification if the SED is accepted or not
- The carrier (vessel, air) does not have to make an SED, as it already has been submitted and you can inform the carrier about the necessary approval (in the form of an ITN Internal Transaction Number, given by US Customs).
