Fig Tree News TeamOur congratulations to Thompson Building for their smashing success!

Nassau, Bahamas - Signs of economic recovery continue with the announcement today that construction of the $8 million Dunmore Court, an all-Bahamian owned and built townhome community in western New Providence, began recently with the first homes ready for occupancy by January 2011.

According to Sidney Bethell, sales associate at Mario Carey Realty, the project is significant for several reasons.

“Dunmore Court is an interesting development – 28 townhomes, each of them 2,200 square feet with four bedrooms and three and a half baths, starting at $499,000, packed with very high-end appointments, but it is also important because of who is behind the development,” said Bethell. “The project is 100% Bahamian-owned and every bit of the work from foundations to the finish on the swimming pool is being carried out by Bahamian contractors and sub-contractors.” Primary developer is Thompson Plumbing, which got its start in Harbour Island and transported the name of the island’s historic settlement to the new development that has a similar in-town, intimate and cozy feel.

Located near the high-end Albany resort and residential project, Dunmore Court is a gated community with homes gathered around a central avenue. Each townhouse is three stories. Residences are designed to appeal to local professionals, retirees or foreign owners searching for a primary or secondary home. Amenities include 24-hour security, lush landscaping, fitness centre, swimming pool and designated parking. The project will be built in four phases.

“For nearly three decades, we have had the opportunity to partner with a number of highly respected companies, including some of the largest in the business, helping them manage Family Island projects on several occasions,” said Vhaul Thompson of Thompson Plumbing. “Dunmore Court is an opportunity for us to use those skills developed over decades to do a complete community from start to finish, producing a product created with excellence and attention to detail.”

The private community will consist of homes boasting high end finishes. Floor plan includes a master bedroom suite, three additional bedrooms: two with en suite bathrooms, large, open floor plan living/dining area, study, and loft, back yard space suitable for private entertaining and turn-key custom interior design and furnishing. All units have hurricane-resistant windows, top-of-the-line Energy-star® appliances, Kohler fixtures, granite counters, hardwood and tile flooring.

Architect is Edward Missick of Missick Designs. Other local contracts have been awarded to Nassau residents Lloyd Saunders of L&B Construction, Candice Hanna of Khanaali Media Group. Interiors will be designed by local company Roomers Ltd., led by Leslie Callender and Hazel Stirling and Mario Carey Realty, which has an exclusive on the listing, said it anticipates working with other real estate firms.
