Fig Tree News TeamVictoria-based theatre production company Castlereigh Theatre Project and Sage Theatre (Calgary) present Ocean Fox.

Belfry Arts Centre’s Studio Theatre on July 19 and 20, 2013.

Ocean Fox is the latest production of emerging Victoria theatre company, Castlereigh Theatre Project. Ocean Fox is a docudrama exploring the tumultuous life and times of Jef Fox, an American dive-master on a remote Bahamian islet called Harbour Island.

Verbatim from interviews with its colourful residents, this one-person / multi‐character play is a spiritual odyssey that navigates the waters of tradition and devotion toward and uncertain future.

Castlereigh Theatre Project is a theatre company based in Victoria, British Columbia, dedicated to the research, creation and production of new documentary theatre: fact-based plays built on real-life accounts and storytelling that explore and investigate current and universal themes.

Formed in 2007, members of Castlereigh Theatre Project went to Medicine Hat, Alberta, to research and create a documentary drama based on the triple murders that devastated the nation due to their controversial nature. Castle In The Sky was the finished project, which went on to premiere at Sage Theatre‘s IGNITE! Festival (Calgary) in June 2011, and was produced the following month in the city from which the story came.

In August, Castle In The Sky was featured as part of Fort McMurray’s INTERplay Festival. Ocean Fox premiered as part of Sage Theatre’s IGNITE! Festival at Calgary’s Pumphouse Theatre in June, 2013.

“(Like a) Jimmy Buffet song, Jef Fox lives the life that a lot of us dream about but one that presents its own set of challenges, as well.” – S. Hunt, Calgary Herald.

“(Ocean Fox) is a story rife with nautical adventure, prolonged adolescence and proof that, even if all good things don’t necessarily end, they certainly change along the way… the latest docudrama from (the) contentious Castle in the Sky…” – M. Tromp-Hoover, CVV Magazine
