Fig Tree News TeamThe very latest Courage Band news:
Jammie Cartwright, Chang Imlach, Dwight Stewart and Danard Anderson are spending some very special time in Jamaica, where some pretty incredible things have been happening for the Harbour Island-based Courage Band.

Courage Band have been recording with the legendary music producer Beres Hammond at Harmony House Studio, located at Beres' home in Stony Hill, Jamaica in the mountains above Kingston. They've recently had four full days at the studio, recording a cover of "Rock Away" [Beres' hit song from his last album, "Music is Life"]. Our guys were given the honour of recording the brand-new original Beres song "Are you Satisfied?" with Dwight doing the lead in his sweet tenor voice. From all reports, the song is a major HIT!! Mervis Walsh, Beres' manager for the last 15 years, hand-picked the song for Courage Band. This particular tune has been hotly pursued by several of the major labels for their own artists, but Mervis very generously gave it to the Courage Band. The guys have so much to be thankful for, and are well aware that their recent experience in Jamaica will change their musical lives forever.

Right now the guys are still in Jamaica for a few more days, mixing and tweaking the hot new tracks for their upcoming release. The entire experience has been a bit surreal for them Ö working with their idol, spending time at Harmony House, playing checkers and ludo with artists like Barrington Levy and Sly, and being in the company of Jamaica's biggest music producers that jam at the studio at Beres' mountaintop home.

Besides working with Beres as producer, Courage Band is teaming with Beresí longtime collaborator Willie Lindo. The Beres Hammond/Willie Lindo duo has produced hundreds of songs together in the last 30 years, and has worked with every major reggae star on the planet -- from Shaggy to Buju, Sean Paul to Ziggy -- and every old schoolmaster to young dancehall artist that has ever made a mark in Jamaica, Japan, Europe, and North America. Willie presently lives in Miami, but works with Beres whenever he is home in Jamaica. Courage Band hopes to do more work with Lindo in Miami later this summer. In the meantime, Beres is at home finishing up his new album that will be released just before his European and North American tour that starts at the end of June. Beres will be performing in Freeport, Bahamas on June 7th.

Beres Hammondís own tour manager Zola Burse is also the tour manager for Maxi Priest, Marcia Griffiths, Diana King, Janet Kay, Big Mountain and Gregory Isaacs. Burse made a point of meeting with Courage Band in Nassau last November, and most recently took them on tour of Hawaii opening for Big Mountain this past January. In the meantime, Burse has since relocated to Ft. Lauderdale to be more closely involved with Courage Bandís latest recording project.

Stay tuned to for news of future performance plans for the band, coming to a venue near you. For further information, contact Loys Whelan, Courage Band Manager at 954-467-7764 or
