Top U.S. Media Find Out What It Means To Be Romantic In The Bahamas
NASSAU, The Bahamas, July 9, 2003 – Five U.S. journalists recently discovered how easy it is to fall in love with the Out Islands of The Bahamas during a three-day press trip to Harbour Island.
Hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, the trip was held June 19 through June 22, 2003. The group consisted of journalists representing Coastal Living, a southern lifestyle publication; Latitudes, an in-flight magazine for American Eagle; Gulfshore Life and Sarasota Magazine, two Florida regional magazines; Diversion, an upscale publication for physicians; and two national women’s magazines, Fitness and Energy for Women.
After landing off the coast of Harbour Island in a 1940’s-style Chalk’s Mallard seaplane, the media were greeted by Pricilla Williams, manager of Weddings and Honeymoons for the Ministry of Tourism, who provided an overview of romance programs and tourist offerings available in The Bahamas. The group, along with their guests, spent the remaining three days touring the island by golf-cart, sampling the culinary delicacies, visiting charming accommodations and participating in activities available to tourists who visit.
Journalists pursued their own individual story angles, both romantic and adventurous. Some strolled along the pink-sand beach, shopped and dined at local restaurants such as Angela’s Starfish, Avery’s and Ma Ruby’s, while others went bike riding, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving. Out Island Adventures, based on Eleuthera, impressed the group with an island tour, kayaking and a visit to the Glass Window Bridge.
Accommodations were secured at the beachfront Coral Sands Hotel and the cozy Runaway Hill Club.
Stories on the journalist’s Out Island experiences are expected to be published in the upcoming months, with the potential of reaching more than 2.5 million U.S. readers combined. Securing story placements in daily newspapers and national magazines remains an integral part of the Ministry of Tourism’s public relations/marketing communications program.
