Just a brief overview of the meeting held w/ Superintendant Roberts, Fire Director. Supt. Roberts suggested that the truck that was chosen by the group may be a little more than is needed.
He stated that the truck at that price $127,011.00 will be sold to us as is. (Not Good) This truck is filled with alot of gadgets that we definitely don't need on this island and these gadgets take up space for maybe a larger capacity tank.
It is a demo. He compared it with a truck that costs about $80,000.00 that is simpler and is standard to all other trucks that is in the Bahamas. Parts will be easier to get if needed. He stated that the truck should fit the specifications that is curtailed to our needs.
He suggested that we speak with the company that is used by the Royal Bahamas Police Fire Dept; Rosenbauer of America. This company offers servicing of the vehicle within a 24 hour period at their costs. He also said that the company that we chose Emergency One has specifications in their system that was designed for the Bahamas.
It's obvious we didn't know this. He suggested that we ask them to give us a print out of that truck. So on Friday there will be another meeting to discuss getting a truck that fits our specifications.
We have some good news, the old fire truck is up and running and more hydrants are being installed throughout the island. So this gives us a little more time to carefully choose a proper truck for the island.
