KimberlyLast Saturday's all-music festival on Bay Street raised almost $10,000 towards the new fire engine, which is expected to arrive on island within the next week or so. The old fire truck was brought out of retirement to offer rides around the island to excited kids of all ages.

In related news, Kenny Sturrup's house on Barracks Lane [between Chapel Street and Gaol Lane] caught fire at 7:00a the very next day, but thanks to the efforts of Fire captain Jefferson Johnson and his all-volunteer firefighting team, the OLD FIRE TRUCK successfully put the fire out. The fire truck team thanks the heroic assistance of neighbours Father Pinder of the St. John's Parsonage, whose rainwater cistern helped save the day, and Coral Sands manager Jacques Brouchier, who assisted with the water hose.
