|chapel||Independence Cycling Classic Rode Exuma On Weekend
As a part of the 31st Anniversary of Independence celebrations, the Bahamas Cycling Federation has partnered with the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture to host the Independence Cycling Classic on the Island of Exuma, July 10.
Byron Musgrove, president of the BSF said many cyclists from Abaco, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera and New Providence have already registered for the event and that local cyclists in Exuma claim they are ready to defend their turf.
The 75-mile race which will start and finish in George Town will feature rolling hills, a smooth but curving roads and some great island views. The start time for the adult cyclists will be 8:30 am.
“Many of the visiting riders are not familiar with the course so it will be interesting to see what develops during the course of the race.
“A large contingent of junior and senior cyclists are expected from New Providence and Grand Bahama and the locals are “excited” about the race.
“Over the past two years the BSF has teamed with the Sports Ministry to stage the Independence Cycling Classic on a different island every year.
“We intend to cover all of the major islands within the next 4-5 years as we try to establish feeder systems, in the islands that will hopefully result in the formation of new cycling clubs and associations throughout the country,” said Musgrove.
