Sue R.I've just learned of the passing of Wentworth Grant, one of my all-time favourite Briland friends. A highly respected community leader, he had a heart of gold and, although it may perplex some people, I have to say he was one of the funniest people I've ever met! At least he always made my husband and me howl. The nights we'd stop in at the Liquor Store at closing time, and he'd let us drink our beer and watch TV with him. Or just sit on the stoop! And we'd "settle the world's problems"! All of them! Or at least we'd try!

My own friendship with "Wentwoith", as I called him, goes back at least 30 years. I always used to marvel at how, day and night, he managed to be everywhere and do everything! Hardly surprising that he was awarded the British Empire Medal. He deserved that honour and many more! When we honeymooned on Briland in 1986, Wentworth was one of the people who made Jesús - a Spaniard but now a Brilander at heart - feel most at home. We are enormously saddened by this loss.

Our deepest condolences go out to the entire family, particularly to you, Spooner and Martin, since you're the ones who know me best. And to you too, Shammie - we stayed at the Cleare Cottage in February 2001. And to all of his many friends who, like us, are feeling blue today.

I don't know when the funeral will be held but I do hope that this wonderful Briland gentleman gets the send-off he deserves. Farewell, dear "Wentwoith"! Briland will be a slightly more sombre place for us now that you're not there. May God bless you!

All our love, Sue and Jesús

KimberlyFig Tree News has just learned that Briland community leader "Mr. Wentworth" passed away on Friday afternoon. Our hearts go out to his entire family and host of friends at this sad time. Among the many accomplishments in his busy life, Mr. Wentworth was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2000 for outstanding services to the Harbour Island community.
