: 3 - YEARLY FILM COMMISSION WORKSH0P - March 23, 2001, marked the official premiere of the Bahamas Film and Television Commission’s new website - www.bahamasfilm.com. The website was unveiled with the ACT Productions Miami team present as designers of the website. The event held at the British Colonial Hilton was set-up as a workshop for the industry and attracted filmmakers, U.S. investors in the Bahamas, government officials from Immigration, Customs, and Tourism and Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism. Mr. Vanderpool-Wallace was quoted 4/2 in the Nassau Guardian following the workshop, “Why anyone would travel beyond us is beyond us.” And then said, “We have more white, sandy beaches than any country in the Western Hemisphere.” More press followed in the Bahamian media as this website has already generated 100,000 hits in February alone. Angela Archer of the BFTC previously commented in the Guardian on 3/24, “The NBCi Directory Team now includes www.bahamasfilm.com in its directory, and has described this site as one of the most popular sites in its category.” Case in point, the worldwide media exposure that this site has already generated is the reason more advertisers are joining bahamasfilm.com.

: Mr. Rick Stierwalt, CEO of Orbitex Funds, flew in from New York via London and spoke eloquently on opportunity in the Bahamas as well as Jordan Kleine who has been bringing film crews to the Bahamas for years since his first trip in 1947. Tony Falcon of Island Outpost flew in from Miami Beach, as did ACT Productions President Bruce Orosz, who feels this is, “Just the start of many new developments to grow the film and television industry in the Bahamas.” He feels this facilitative website will enable filmmakers, directors, location scouts, photographers, and producers to quickly understand that the services and infrastructure, already in place in the Bahamas, will allow them to quickly move through the various stages of production for their projects. Mr. Cordell Thompson, Consultant at the Ministry of Tourism said, “The cooperation The Bahamas Film Commission receives from Customs, Immigration and other Government departments plays a large role in this Commission's success”. This workshop will become an annual event due to its overwhelming response.

: 4 – ON-LINE LOCATION LIBRARY EXPANDING – With the help of the Bahamas Promotional Board and photographer Greg Johnston, our library once again will be expanding. New Islands to be included: Cat Island - With 50 miles of rolling hills and pristine beaches, including the eight mile Pink Sands Beach formed from crushed conch shells with rolling waves and tasteful, private villas- Cat Island may be a photographers dream. About 223 miles southeast of Nassau is Acklin another of the principal islands of the Bahamas and Crooked Island. Crooked Island boasts miles of beautiful and private beaches. Finally, Bimini, being the closest of The Islands Of The Bahamas to the Florida coast (see the glow of Miami Beach at night), offers the first stop “feel of the Caribbean”, and has a reputation for yacht hopping and frivolity. Images of theses gorgeous landscapes and beaches coming soon.
