Weather
The warm trend in this the summer solstace continues in the Out Islands of the Bahamas today. Several persons reported seeing the eclipse of Mars earlier this morning.
The weather is building up for rain sometime soon. Lightning storms can be seen in the rain clouds in the Horizon. Spanishwells and North Eleuthera reported substantial amounts of Rain Thursday evening. South Eleuthera and Tarpum Bay should not be too far off in terms of rain. The Farmers will be quite happy with this fact. Rain coming soon over the next few days, thunder storms. Currently the trend for us is warm weather in the low 90’s during the day with quite cool breezy evenings. The cool evenings are quite a pleasure and are taken advantage of by villagers sitting out on the porch or otherwise by the sea shore catching the cool breezes flowing in off of the Caribbean sea.

News
Politics is in the air these days. The Bahamas and the Island of Eleuthera are charged at the moment with lots of potential political fall out. At stake are all the marbles. The phrase,”I hear what I say, I say what I mean and hear what I say, “ will be a popular one this coming election. Until the Prime minister of the Bahamas, Hubert Ingraham accepts or renounces continuation of the leadership of the Country of the Bahamas Bahamians will be on the edge of bitter debate.

The Prime Minister, who has had great success only on three main Islands of the Bahamas and with only 75% of the Bahamian population is being urged to do the honorable thing and renounce his nomination by his own political party to further lead the FNM into another five year stay at the helm of the countries leading political party to date. Prime Minister Ingraham promised the people of the Bahamas that he will only serve two five year terms in his high office as prime minister of the Bahamas back in 1992 and again in 1997. The Prime minister vowed not to hog up political power like the former PLP government and stressed at the time that he was a man of honor when he rang out loudly the phrase in a touching political speech he said,”I am an honorable man, I hear what I say and I say what I mean.”

Many Bahamians, especially FNM’s are embarrassed and afraid that the Prime Minister may go back on his word. He may accept the nomination indeed to spend another five years at the helm of running and leading the Bahamas and the FNM party into the next five year political term if they and he are successful at winning the vote of the Bahamian populus despite the fact that he might break his promise by accepting against his will supposedly his parties nomination again for the nations top office as Prime Minister. Another fear is that Mr. Ingraham will further erode the international reputation of the Bahamas and himself gained over the past five years. We all have something to loose here. This country belongs to us all.

Many Bahamians are discussing the strong issue in the news and among themselves these days, they are calling for Prime minister Hubert Ingraham not to become filled with the same political greed that became the down fall of the former PLP political party under the over zealous misdirected leadership of the nations father, Sir Lynden Pindling. It is quite clear many people are saying that the FNM and the Prime minister Hubert Ingraham are quite susceptible and may fall right into the same trap as the former leading political party in the country, the PLP.

It remains to be seen whether or not through a much anticipated public announcement whether the present Prime Minister, Mr. Hubert Ingraham will accept or not accept the role as continuing leader of the FNM party and run again as Prime minister for another five years hoping to win the respect and confidence of the Bahamian people against the wishes of many honorable Bahamians who are calling for a new fresh approach to the leadership of the controlling political force in the country of the Bahamas, whichever party they may turn out to be.

Many are hoping that in the end Prime minister Hubert Ingraham will have the gall and the confidence to rise above the erroneous call of his leading now majority FNM party and force the party to appoint into position a new leader who will carry the FNM party as leader into the next general election. Bahamians in heated discussion claim they are looking for honesty, truth and honor. Adjectives they say which will further become the hall marks of the Bahamas our wonderful country which we cannot afford to back track back into the political tyranny we knew before the confident, majority Bahamian appointed FNM party won the leadership from under the now defunct PLP party still fighting for a cause through which they may regain the leadership role in this our wonderful country of the Bahamas.

Many FNM supporters in heated discussion right now are calling for Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham to do the honorable thing and dissapoint the now divided FNM leadership thus providing a place for a new enlightened leader of the Bahamian people. Many Bahamians have suffered before they do no wish to suffer political tyranny so soon again. The leaders of the Bahamas are being asked to take their political infighting into a separate arena and not expose their true subversion of the Bahamian people and not air their personal economic trickery in the nations house of parliament. We deserve a much higher standard of leadership and less political infighting such as is going on between Mr. Brent Symonette and Mr. Bradley Roberts, exposing such underhanded dealings as they have?

This is a hotly debated and contested issue in the Islands of the Bahamas, especially those Out Islands like South Eleuthera which have been neglected by the FNM government in the area of development for the past twenty years, areas like this exist in the Bahamian Out Islands especially where people have been neglected and frustrated with promises from both governments for the past thirty years. Eleutherians and leading groups in the majority FNM government vow and claim that they refuse to be further politically hurt and used again. Lets see if our prime Minister Hubert Ingraham does the right thing by deciding that he will not contest himself by running for prime minister of the FNM party in the next oncoming election. This coming general election in the Bahamas will take place over the next six months.

Prime Minister do the honorable thing, retire and allow fresh new enlightened leadership take hold of this strong growing Bahamas. You sir, Prime minister Hubert Ingraham have done a great job for Nassau, Abaco and Freeport. Someone must have a vision for the entire remainder of the Bahamas. Please allow them to exercise their knowledge to develop our entire country not leaving eighty percent of our development potential dead and dying. Eleuthera and South Eleuthera need new hope in 2001. More than forty years of blatent denial and neglect is too much for modern man to bear. You the leading political parties of the Bahamas have hurt us too long. Give us a chance to be resilient and live freely in the modern world. That’s our advice to the FNM.
