In the late 1980's, I had the privilege to attend the ceremonies of the renaming of the school at Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera, as the
"P. A. Gibson School." The evening was an outpouring of love from former students, including the Chorus of Old Students, the
Singing Policeman from Andros, etc. Mr. Gibson's son, the late Timothy Gibson, and also a music teacher, composed a new
National Anthem for the Bahamas for a competition. His entry beat out that of Pastor Rahming, who wrote the poem for the
ceremony.

Please read and savor Mr. Gibson's words on this day, as important to all Bahamians as our Independence Day is to
Americans:

Lift up your head to the rising sun, Bahamaland;
March on to glory, your bright banners waving high.
See how the world marks the manner of your bearing!
Pledge to excel through love and unity.
Pressing onward, march together to a common loftier goal;
Steady sunward, though the weather hide the wide and treach'rous shoal.
Lift up your head to the rising sun, Bahamaland;
'Til the road you've trod
Lead unto your God,
March on, Bahamaland!
