Todays News articlesWednesday, July 18, 2001WeatherToday is another glorious day in the neighborhood with little chance of rain. The skies are open and blue with temperatures soaring up to the mid nineties by early afternoon. The breeze is calm. Its another beach day and a great day for out door activities.NewsWhen you think of a foreign home owner in the Bahamas, thoughts of a wealthy somewhat selfish person emerges without an indication that there would or could be some national benefit derived from he or she. After paying the government of the Bahamas more than 1% real property tax annually on the value of their property you’d think they would have had enough of the Bahamian government and its people. Not so says a rather community active foreign home owner here in Tarpum Bay. His community activity is much the same as several of the foreign home owners here in Tarpum Bay, tend to be. The more famous ones of these foreign home owners are known throughout the community for their generosity to the people of Tarpum Bay. This particular home owner came up with a wonderful suggestion during one of our heated discussions on improving Community life in the Bahamas as a whole. That home owner had come up with a brilliant suggestion and to our amazement informed us, the members of Sanhedran of this, that foreign home owners in the Bahamas are captians of industry in the United States and other portions of the world from which they descend. They are experienced with some of the more elite tasks as managers and controllers of first world industry, including fortune five hundred companies throughout the world and that they have the skills needed to direct any company or country for that matter to the height of success if given the chance. The foreign home owner, almost with the ease of a local nowadays, informed us of his suggestion that the Bahamas government form an advisory group of people or board made up of these foreign home owners and use their expertise to the benefit of the Bahamian government and its people to further the cause of the Bahamas and its population in the world. The country of the Bahamas, he said could benefit from the collective expertise of such an advisory board. Whats more these advisory board members made up of Bahamians and non Bahamians would be a non paid or non profit entity since the members, foreign home owners already do not need the payment from the Bahamas government. They would derive satisfaction from the fact and honor of serving on the government board and leave it at that, just the opportunity to further use their skills and serve in order to further the causes of the Bahamas their now foreign home. We all sat in amazement and thought to ourselves and expressed to the homeowner,” What a brilliant Idea,” I found myself saying. What a splendid idea. Our country could benefit from the expertise and advisory counsel of such people as he who had experience previously controlling a budget for a company in the United States for so many years. His companies budget was just over that of our country the Bahamas, just over two billion dollars annually. Well I thought this is a brilliant idea this home owner has come up with. Now I thought how could this be introduced to government and the Community in such a way so as to make it a positive reasonable suggestion government was likely to adhere to and put into effect. We did discuss a few glitches that may arise as a result of forming such a body but soon smoothed them over given the shear brilliance of this idea. This home owner is applauded for his brilliant thought and we hope to see someone in government have the foresight to take advantage of such a scheme or formulate such an advisory group for our wonderful country.More news from Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow Back to topo of page Back to home/start page
