I'm a bit curious about your view of PM and the "HI establishment". I am pretty sure that my view is different and I may have missed something that you have seen.
My view of PM is that of an individual who rudely told a man from Pakistan to use a spell checker before posting on this board when the man sent his Christmas "GREETINGS FROM A DISTENT LAND" to the Briland Board. I see an individual who ridiculed a young man from HI who offered his "disk jockey" services in a message on this board. I see him ridicule a local girl for her spelling when she was asking for assistance with a college program in Nashville. My view is that of an individual who consistently offers smart alec and rude replies to people who ask questions or ask for help on this board - never giving any useful information to them. I see an individual who insulted the community of Spanish Wells and a man who was spending his three week vacation there. None of these people deserved a "poke in the eye".
I see an individual who is the self-appointed spelling and grammar checker for this board, but apparently doesn't practice what he preaches. You will see incomplete sentences, miss-spelled words, poor grammar, and incoherent statements when you look at his messages. Please don't misunderstand me on this point. I am not finding fault with him on these issues. I only point to his errors because of his insistence on accuracy from others.
I'm a little puzzled about your phrase, "HI establishment". The only groups that I'm aware of are groups that take on useful projects to help the island residents and visitors. There was a group that replaced the fig tree. There is the "Every Child Counts" effort. There are people involved in computer training and the library effort. I am sure that there are many other useful projects that don't get a lot of attention. I don't believe that you would want any of these taking a "poke in the eye" from anyone. I know that, like any other place, there will be an occasional "turkey" who really deserves a "poke in the eye", but PM has missed on this count.
Some of his comments show serious thought, some are humorous, but so many of his remarks and comments are rude and negative that these over-shadow his good. He could be an asset to any message board with his wit if properly used.
I guess that I can summarize by saying that the only "eye poking" that I have observed involved innocent people who just happened to ask a question or ask for help and, except for the young man and college girl from HI, had no connection at all to HI.
I would find it very difficult to offer support to an individual who behaves as he does - and I hope that you will reconsider.
