Out Island Bahamian Band Makes Caribbean Music Expo Debut

[Harbour Island, Bahamas - 7 March 2002] The popular Courage Band of Harbour Island, Bahamas will launch this year’s Caribbean Music Expo, being hosted at the Renaissance Jamaica in Ocho Rios. Fresh on the heels of the December 2001 debut of their first CD, ‘Vitamin C,’ the Bahamian band is eager to showcase their unique reggae-Junkanoo-calypso-pop sound. They will take the stage during the opening night festivities at The Ruins on Wednesday, 20 March 2002 from 10:00p 1:00a, sharing the concert spotlight with Revolution Band of Antigua/Anguilla, and Mark Stephenson, Marcus I and Nadz of Jamaica. The concert will be broadcast and cybercast live on Black Entertainment Television [BET] and eTV.

“Harbour Island has always been well-known for its unique live music sound, but ‘Vitamin C’ is the first studio project to leave the island since The Percentie Brothers recorded their classic calypso tunes back in the 1950s. The Caribbean Music Expo has got to be THE premiere music event in the Caribbean, and we’re thrilled that we’re being asked to participate,” says Dwight Stewart, lead singer for Courage Band. “We’re really proud of our Bahamian music heritage, and look forward to sharing it with the rest of the world.”

The CME is an annual music industry trade show featuring music from the Caribbean, conferences and live concerts, and is designed to enable English, Spanish and French-speaking Caribbean music producers and service providers to position themselves for the global market. CME was first staged in November 1999 in Ocho Rios, Jamaica in order to facilitate deal-making between Caribbean music producers and international music distributors, and to address the weaknesses that Caribbean music producers and performers encounter in management, production, marketing and intellectual property rights administration. These weaknesses pose a serious threat to the global competitiveness of Caribbean music. For more information on the Caribbean Music Expo, go to www.cme.com.jm/.
