Nadia Rodgers-Albury has won the coveted title of
Miss Bahamas Universe. Although it was a hotly
contested pageant in the Atlantis ballroom, Miss Soft
and Beautiful and Bacardi Limon wooed the judges,
taking home not only the crown, but she also won the
best costume title, best body, and Miss Popularity for
selling the most tickets.

Miss Rodgers-Albury, who is now 21, won the Miss
Commonwealth crown in 1998, placed second runner up
in Miss Bahamas 1999. She then went to Dallas Texas,
where she won the Miss Soft and Beautiful title.

The final question put to the delegates sought to find
out what they would like to change if given the crown.
Miss Albury said she wished to change terrorism and
would advocate for world peace wherever she goes.
Miss Horton said that changing the minds of people to
see beauty from within would be her quest. *** Miss
Eleuthera, whose answer woke up the crowd, said that
changing the world begins with individuals, and if
persons can be changed for the better, the world would
be a better place. ***

This was the first ever Miss Bahamas Universe
pageant. Therefore, there was no reigning queen to
pass the crown. Rather, the reigning Miss Universe
Denise Quinones did the honours. Miss Quinones, who
is visiting the Bahamas for the second time, applauded

describing them as "amazing". She advised Bahamian
girls who wish to aspire for the Miss Universe title to
prepare very well in all areas, be spontaneous, and be
confident in themselves.

"I think pageantry is a grand opportunity for women to
enhance themselves, to market themselves to the
corporate citizens of the Bahamas, especially if you are
interested in the area of modeling. It's a perfect way to
get your name out there and it's a way to provide
modeling jobs," said Miss Albury.

She added that during her travels representing the
Bahamas, she will spread the message of world peace.
