The good press that Shogren's club has been receiving is history now that his world-class chef, Mr. Richard Hamilton, has left. Thanks to Mr. Hamilton Briland received rave reviews in a number of top publications (including the New York Times, as noted on this board). For whatever reason, Shogren failed to honor Mr. Hamilton's contract of employment and so left Mr. Hamilton with no choice, as a professional, but to leave. Now Mr. Hamilton is suing Shogren for breach of contract, whilst Shogren is doing all he can to tarnish Mr. Hamilton's reputation both on the island and in the States.
When you see the back-handed way he is treating the man who put his club on the international map, it should not be a surprise to learn that he conducts his business in an under-handed fashion. To bribe government officials in Nassau to allow him to purchase land that should not be available to non-Brilanders would come easily to someone who can use people so heartlessly. To scare the Taylors, who have done so much for the community on this island, from their home is all in a days work for this man.
Mr. Glenroy Aranah called Shogren a "greedy, land-grabbing racist". I have yet to see Shogren come on this board to defend himself so are we to assume that Mr. Aranah's accusation is true?

Greedy? Shogren refused, among other things, to pay Mr. Hamilton what was owed under the terms of their contract, indicating that he wanted something for nothing. That indicates greed.

Land-grabbing? He acquired Crown Land that should not be available to a non-Brilander, let alone a non-Bahamian. He forced the Taylors from their home. That indicates land-grabbing.

Racist? Ask his staff at the club how he treats them - like grade-school children. Ask the lady who cleaned the Taylors house from top to bottom for him how much he offered to pay her. How much would you pay someone to thoroughly clean that house? $35? Would he even dare to consider offering such an obscenely small amount to a cleaner in the States?

I am digusted, and will not be patronising Shogren's club again.

Sincerely,

Andrew Morton
