What's amazing to me is that if you read Dr. Paul Albury's 'History of the Bahamas,' you'll see that back at the turn of the 20th century, Harbour
Island had more than 5,000 hardworking boat-builders, sailmakers and farmers living here. Where did they find the room to build their houses
back then? I'm also amazed at the wonderful care they took of the environment back then. As concerned as everyone is with the development of
Harbour Island, I'd also like to sound a caution for what we're doing to its surrounding waters with our constant garbage dumping and dredging and reef bleaching. If anything, the recent events of the past few weeks have reminded us of what exactly we do have
here, and what we stand to lose if we are not careful with the resources we've been given. It's not only about what other people are doing ...
it's also all about the responsibility we take for our own actions. We can't just expect someone else to take care of everything.
