I've never been on the island at high season so maybe I'm not the one to respond, but it seems to me that it's been years since Valentine's had anyting going on at all! There is barely even a bar there now at least that's how it seemed last summer! I wouldn't think that Briland would have the big "blow out" kinds of festivities anyway because I always got the impression that the folks I know who go for N.Y.E. are looking for the opposite! I've tried to go to Gusty's 20 times during many summers and the only time it was ever even open was last summer during the Regatta and the clientel was hardly "local"-mostly young rich cigar-chomping kids looking for somthing that didn't seem to be there! I don't know that this is the island for anything but laid-back kinda fun, at least that's how it is in the summer.
