There is a choice for satellite phones in the Bahamas and the Caribbean! And, it's been in place since 1996....

My name is Don Witzel and I am Director of Business Development for TMI Communications. TMI is a mobile satellite services operator based in Canada, in business since the late 80's, with our own satellite flying since 1996. We offer a broad range of voice, facsimile, data, dispatch radio and asset tracking services throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central and parts of South America, and most importantly, throughout the Caribbean.

I just read a recently published article in Space News describing the frustration residents of the Bahamas (and surely many other Caribbean islands as well) are experiencing with the demise of the Iridium system. The article goes on to say that people are understandably wary of the new Globalstar service which, only after it is officially available in this region later in the year, is feared may suffer a similar fate down the road.

Well, it seems to be a weel kept secret that a reliable and established choice already exists throughout the Caribbean region for mobile, stationary, and marine communications. TMI's services have certainly been extensively proven in times of real and potential disasters such as Hurricane Floyd, Hurricane Mitch, a devastating Canadian ice storm a few years ago, major flooding events, and in preparation for Y2K.

TMI is the network manager/operator and we offer our services exclusively through authorized Service Providers in specific regions and industry sectors. I recommend that interested people contact...

1) TMI's Client Services Center at 1-800-216-6728 or (613) 742-0010 (ext. 4300) or via e-mail at csrhelp@tmi.ca

2) CLA Satcom (Jon Aldrich) at (941) 417-5788 or via e-mail at jda@clasatcom.com

3) Infosat Telecommunications (Brad Oakley) at 1-800-871-3011 or(705) 527-7779 or via e-mail at boakley@infosat.com

3) Satcom Systems (Tom Soumas) at (818) 526-1700 or via e-mail at tsoumas@satsrv.com

We trust your readers will find the solutions they are seeking and an end to frustration with satellite phone service.

Sincerely,

Don Witzel
