Kimberly and Sharon arrived on Harbour Island on Friday afternoon, just in time to catch the latest maneuvers of the almost-over hurricane season. Preparations around the Harbour Island and North Eleuthera area began in earnest on Saturday afternoon in anticipation of Hurricane Michelle. The mailboats have been moved over to Spanish Wells for safekeeping, most homes and many businesses are just about boarded for the storm, and folks are looking out for each other to make sure that there's an adequate supply of water, fuel and basic drygoods. The community feeling around town is that of quiet watchfulness.
As long as we maintain a telephone connection, we'll report daily on the latest information specific to any storm-related damage. Please don't send any e-mail to me directly, as the Internet access speeds have dropped dramatically as everyone has gone online to inform friends and family of the storm. Please post your comments and questions to the Briland Modem messageboard directly, as I can access the board far more easily than I can my e-mail.
