My name is Otis Johnson and I am the son of Randall Johnson. I am 17 and I attend school at Windermere High.
For 12 years of my precious life I have lived right next to the "Bay". As a little boy I remember playing out on girls bank. My neighbours' children and I would go conching, shelling and digging for crabs every sunday. Believe it or not, It was us that stood the cedar tree up in the middle of the bay when hurricane Andrew first moved it from the land. I remember doing everything on the bay; from flying airplanes to playing volleyball. The Bay to me was a place where you can play and have fun without worrying about getting knock down from a car or even being in anybody's way.
It is very sad to see how these guys want to come and build a marina on it. We as brilanders must come together to preserve areas like these for generations to come. We must all take into consideration that although this marina will bring prosperity to our economy it is very hazardous to the ecology system in Harbour Island. Surprisingly enough Girls bank has the last set of wild mangroves on the island. I would like to urge everybody who reads this message to strongly oppose this marina. These guys obviosly doesnt care about our future generations. I want eveybody to take a good look at paradise Island. Do you want Harbour Island to become a replica of P.I. I don't think so, I think we prefer a place to call home, Harbour Island. If we don't stand up for what is ours nobody else will stand up for us. I am very surprise to see the amount of corruption in our Government. We must take back what is ours even to the land that Dunmore Beach bought. Remember my dear friends, it is the people that make up the Government and we must take a stand now because we have the power too. I will say it again my dear friends, Oppose this project with all your respect and dignity. Remember you are only protecting your home, if I was of the legal age I am damn sure that I would do the same thing. Always remember that Money go and Come but Girls bank, when it is gone it is gone forever. Take a stand for the People of Harbour Island and Harbour Island itself and Vote against this marina.
