Thanks, Otis, for sharing your memories of Girls Bank. For me, Girls Bank will always be special. Not only did I learn how to go conching there, but I first saw water moccasins shooting out their maroon ink in three feet sprays into otherwise brilliantly clear water. My father taught me how to parallel park between two piles of seaweed at low tide on Girls Bank. I jumped the sand cliffs there, and I swam there at sunset.

Girls Bank is a history lesson for the island as it -- and the rest of the country -- moves through so many sea changes decade after decade. Girls Bank IS Harbour Island at its simplest.
